Natural Cures For Gout

By Andrew Caserta

An episode of painfully swollen joints is also called gout. It is a common arthritis, known as gouty arthritis. It affects any joint in the body, but the big toes are the popular targets of gout and its attacks are quick and rather painful. You will also experience swelling and inflammation in the affected area.

Gout is the result of urate crystals that come from uric acid that is a by-product of purine metabolised in the body. Uric acid is a kind of bodily waste that is removed by the kidneys. If it isn't gotten rid of, the uric acid can accumulate and cause excruciating joint pain.

Men and women may get gout however men over 40 have greater chances than women. There is an increase in risk after menopause for women having gout. If it's a common condition in the family then it is possible that you are at risk since it's also genetic in nature.

Excessive drinkers and red meat eaters have greater risks of getting gout, while some people with certain medical conditions such as heart-related diseases or diabetes also have greater chances. Eating foods with high levels of purines, like shellfish, caviar, sardines, and anchovies, can make you susceptible to gout.

Different people experience symptoms with varying frequency and intensity. But if you have gout, be sure to see a doctor. The condition is a signal that you are awash in uric acid. Severe cases of high uric acid content in the body affect the kidneys and urate crystals eventually develop into kidney stones.

Gout symptoms include swelling, redness, and intense pain in a joint. Gout first appears in the big toe in most cases, but other joints on the extremities are often the first to manifest symptoms. The severe pain could be made unbearable by even just the pressure of bed sheets. However, many attacks of gout get better in days, even without corresponding treatment, and will not recur for many months or years.

There are both natural and medicinal cures for gout, but both start with a trip to the doctor. If you are already suffering from gout, make sure to take care of your joints and know the possible gout cures.

NSAIDS like ibuprofen, indomethacin, and naproxen are commonly used to treat gout. However, aspirin is not used because it could increase uric acid retention. These medications aren't very effective, and can have serious side effects.

If the gout is chronic, Corticosteroids are often prescribed. Allopurinol, probenecid, and colchicine get used to help ease gout and lower the chance of having a recurrence.

Many herbs and non-narcotic pain relief methods are also used as gout cures by minimizing the pain and other symptoms.
