Restless Leg Syndrome Treatments

By Cheryl Martinel

If you want to have irritation and disruption, not much is worse than RLS or Restless Legs Syndrome. Although it's not going to kill you, having this condition could still be extremely annoying. One's sleep habits soon shall suffer. A good night's sleep could be hard for anyone with RLS.

The sensation that is being felt in the leg just feels as though something is literally crawling under your skin. At some stage, you may have strange sensations that there is something like a big that is attacking your leg. The majority of the time it is the calf that is most affected, and it can increase as the condition worsens.

There is no true evidence that will lead to the real source of this condition. Experts have determined that RLS may be caused by chemical imbalances. This imbalance is either triggered by increasing stress levels or it could be a natural thing that has been inherited or has just basically been there at the onset. There have been some treatment options used for restless leg syndrome, though most are relatively unknown.

Natural cures and over-the-counter medications are available to treat Restless Leg Syndrome. Obviously among the two, the cheaper Restless Leg Syndrome treatment would be the all-natural ones. And ideally, these are what you need to try out first before going on and thinking that the case may already be severe.

A natural treatment to RLS constitutes some of the usual practices that you can do to relax the muscles. If your muscles twitch, you are applying to much pressure on them which is caused by chemical imbalance.

The start of the cure is to prevent the problems that caused the imbalance in the first place, and only then follow that with some kind of natural treatment. It is essential that you give up your alcohol, tobacco and caffeine completely. Avoid an excess of these even if you don't suffer from RLS. When the twitching occurs, then that would be the time to do the Restless Leg Syndrome treatment.

Either take a warm bath, or apply hot and cold compress. Also, it might be best if you do some kind of activity that will relax your muscles. In this case, stretching at least once a day would be good for you.

The over-the-counter medication usually is reserved for those who are experiencing a more severe level of RLS. Anticonvulsants, Dopaminergics, Benzodiazepines and Opiates are what the doctor will recommend. Depending on what the doctor told you to take, you are looking at maybe a combination of these medications or even just one of them as Restless Leg Syndrome treatment.
