The Better Diet for a Flat Stomach

By Greg White

One of the unintended side-effects of an unhealthy way of living is the accumulation of fat around the stomach area. Abdominal fat can be obstinate, but there are many easy things you can do to do flatten your stomach and achieve a slimmer appearance.

First, if you drink alcohol regularly, it's a good idea to cut down your intake or eliminate it from your diet altogether. Alcohol contains plenty of calories and may end up in weight gain even if you do not eat rather a lot. Replace alcohol with plenty of fresh water, and you'll see your stomach shrinking faster than you would believe achievable.

If you do not drink lots of alcohol, what else do you drink? If you drink a lot of sweetened coffee, tea, soda, and other drinks that contain calories, it's a good idea to replace most of these with water too. You will cut out a few hundred calories a day just with this one move alone.

Next, look at how many ready-made foods you eat. Does most of your diet contain lots of pre-packaged foods? The majority of these foods contain raised levels of sodium, sugar, chemicals and preservatives, all of which can make a contribution to a sluggish metabolism and weight gain. An easy, whole foods diet is the best option for burning fat and flattening your stomach. When you stop consuming all that "junk" your body straight away starts coming into balance and the weight starts melting off.

Avoiding fried food and junk food is another critical step for a flat stomach. Fried foods and fast foods are widely known for being loaded with fat - and not the good sorts of fat! If you were to replace those unhealthy foods with better quality sources of fat, like salmon, avocados, and nuts, you would notice an important difference in how you feel and how you look. Fat is really good for you, but only the right sorts of fat - polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. Limit your consumption of saturated fat, and avoid trans fat totally.

Last though not least, exercise plays an important role in weight loss, from your abdomen area and everywhere else. Nevertheless before you start doing lots of crunches a day to flatten your belly, it's important to understand that crunches won't do a thing for you if you have body fat stored in your midsection. That is the reason why dietary changes are critical to start burning extraneous fat. Once that fat is burned off, then abs exercises can be effective in giving you that lean, flat stomach. Aerobics is effective in using calories and excess fat, while resistance exercises like stomach crunches are effective for toning and firming.

Bear in mind that flattening your gut may take a little persistence and time, but it is really worth the effort in the long run, not only for ego purposes but because it will improve your health too.
